![]() | Sony A7 IV Pros: Very workable file, excellent autofocus, top machine customization Cons: fun factor, low resolution display, articulating display, viewfinder can be improved Opinion: I bought the Sony A7 IV in November 2022, so after more than two years of use I think it's time to take stock. I have used it in practically all photographic genres, except for birdlife, and also for videos, especially during travels and holidays. I start with the so-called "defects", if they can be defined as such. I come from an A7 III, so the generational leap has been felt. The change has taken place mainly for the electronic viewfinder and the display. The EVF has improved significantly, while the display remains one of the weak points: under direct sunlight it is difficult to read and the resolution is quite low, especially when compared to lower-end cameras such as the Fuji X-E4, which offers a much more defined screen. Also, I don't particularly like the new articulation system, I preferred the previous one. As for the autofocus, I have never encountered any problems - it is fast, reliable and very accurate. Honestly, it's hard to ask for more in this respect. The only real "drawback", if you will, is the fun factor. The A7 IV is extremely effective, almost surgical. However, also owning a Fuji, I realized that I have more fun with the latter: perhaps for the film simulations, perhaps for the better display that returns a more faithful preview of the shot. With Sony, sometimes, the photo on the screen seems out of focus due to low definition, while once on the PC it looks perfect. That said, if I am looking for an operational, reliable and "glove-like" machine, Sony remains unbeatable. One of the aspects I appreciate most is the extreme customization: everything is configurable, there are four rings (which become five with lenses equipped with an aperture ring) and this guarantees great operational speed. I am not a professional, but an evolved amateur; When I photograph events, I often work in a frenetic way and frequently switch between photos and videos. Having a machine set to the millimeter is a guarantee of speed and efficiency. Video chapter: 4K 60p with crop can be seen as a limitation, but in practice it is absolutely manageable. It all depends on the type of use. On the road I never perceived real limitations. As for logs and color profiles, I personally find them unnecessary if you don't have specific professional needs: they only complicate the workflow. Recording in standard mode already achieves excellent dynamic range. In conclusion, after more than four years of using the Sony system, I don't feel any real need to change camera bodies due to shortcomings or limitations, something I had felt with the A7 III. For me the Sony A7 IV is still widely promoted with flying colors. I hope this review can be helpful to someone. Hello! sent on December 16, 2025 |
![]() | Sigma 65mm f/2 DG DN C Pros: Fast and precise autofocus, top build quality, excellent flare resistance, razor sharp in center and edges, creamy blur and minimum focusing distance Cons: Focal length, weight Opinion: Before choosing I tried marginally the sony 85 1.8 and the samyang 75 1.8. They are excellent lenses, I would even say better the samy of the sony, but each had something that was not optimal, or the flare, or the sharpness at the edges or the construction. Sigma surpasses them in all these aspects. Then the minimum focusing distance allows you to make greater "close ups" than the others. Perhaps the focal length of 65 is a little peculiar, but in narrow environments it allows you to move away less and in any case, thanks to the minimum shorter focusing distance, allows you to get closer. sent on March 02, 2022 |
![]() | Fujifilm X-T20 Pros: Compactness, file quality, lightness, af Cons: Ergonomics not at the height of SLR cameras, plastic ferrules, battery, for now RAF development system Opinion: Hello, I have the machine for a short time, then I will integrate later with a more detailed review, for now I took pictures of nerd and I checked the differences with my nikon 7100. First I can say that the 'ergonomics is very different than the Nikon , with the XT20 when you look at the electronic viewfinder is difficult to change all parameters on the fly, due to the buttons too small and close together, the dials (the front and rear wheels) are plastic and being small tend occasionally to "slip ", then to avoid more prizes the ring and takes over a function (FN), so you still need to stay light. If they had done in simil rubber would certainly have been better.rnL 'autofocus, I was not disappointed at all, indeed, certainly on the Nikon I had goals that were not lightning, but also on the XT20 I took a lens not really splinter (35 1.4 ), so I would say on par with Nikon. I think you have to take the hand, but I must say that its compactness and non-existent weight make it excellent for thestreet walks, which Nikon tended to avoid.rnI find the electronic shutter very comfortable.rnFor now I stop here, I have not done serious photos, nor photo shoots so in heavy use I can not yet say mine. For now, next to the D7100, then we'll see. sent on January 08, 2018 |
