A scendere, sette (originariamente dieci) tele del registro superiore, realizzate tra il 1658 e il 1663, raffigurano sontuosi ritratti equestri della famiglia ducale e della nobiltà. Le opere, eseguite da Miel e da altri pittori attivi alla corte sabauda, mettono bene in chiaro chi fossero i personaggi più in vista del momento. L'ordine e la posizione dei soggetti non è casuale, vi sono esclusi tutti coloro che possano essere ostili al duca Carlo Emanuele II (il committente dell'opera) e alla madre reggente (Cristina di Francia), come i parenti responsabili di aver trascinato il ducato nella sanguinosa guerra civile. Delle sette opere, una proviene dal Palazzo Reale, mentre le altre sei dal Castello di Racconigi. Restano ancora avvolti nel mistero tre ritratti: uno, raffigurante le dame di corte, si pensa possa essere andato distrutto durante l'incendio. Gli altri due, uno con il duca ritratto accanto alla madre e l'altro con il duca accanto alla prima e alla seconda moglie vengono menzionati per l'ultima volta nel 1875 diretti verso Roma.
