Lungo la linea retta, che, in prosecuzione della via centrale di Venaria Reale (Via Mensa) attraversando la Sala di Diana e il Giardino a Fiori, corre in coincidenza con l'Allea Centrale, si trovano nuove realizzazioni e resti di strutture antiche riportate alla luce mediante scavo archeologico: la Corte d'onore con la Fontana del Cervo, il Giardino a Fiori, i ruderi della Fontana d'Ercole, l'Allea Centrale con il canale d'acqua e il basamento del Tempio di Diana. Era questo il percorso originario sviluppato sull'asse centrale del progetto di Amedeo di Castellamonte, che, nella seconda metà del Seicento, concepì Borgo, Reggia e Giardini come unico complesso. Nei Giardini esso era arricchito da fontane e strutture monumentali, in cui sculture e rilievi celebravano in forma allegorica, come nella Reggia,la competizione dell'uomo con la natura, con particolare riguardo alla caccia, cui l'origine stessa della residenza era strettamente legata. La Fontana d'Ercole e il Tempio di Diana erano le significative opere ai due estremi della lunga Allea di Ercole, la passeggiata principale seicentesca. Il progetto di Michelangelo Garove, redatto nel 1700 con l'apporto di progettisti di giardini francesi, conservò la centralità di questo asse, che divenne poi marginale con le realizzazioni dei primi decenni del 1700 e con l'intervento di Filippo Juvarra sul fronte meridionale della Reggia. Il progetto stesso prevedeva l'eliminazione delle opere monumentali collocate sulla direttrice est-ovest per aprire una visione senza interruzioni e limiti, all'infinito e furono quindi demoliti prima il Tempio di Diana e poi la Fontana d'Ercole. I resti di queste strutture, e le fondamenta della Fontana del Cervo nella Corte d'Onore, che erano rimasti interrati, sono riproposti, arricchiti di nuove valenze espressive, come testimonianza archeologica dei giardini seicenteschi. Sullo sfondo a destra la Basilica di Superga.
