Il ritrovamento dell'antica fontana del Cervo, ideata alla metà del XVII secolo dall'architetto di corte Amedeo di Castellamonte, ha reso necessario un ripensamento dei progetti di riqualificazione della Corte d'onore che ha portato all'ideazione di un nuovo spazio, in grado di accogliere il pubblico e restituire i fasti del passato. L'attenta ricostruzione dell'assetto seicentesco della Reggia sottolinea come l'elemento dell'acqua abbia avuto grande importanza nell'organizzazione dei luoghi destinati alla corte. La vasca dell'antica fontana, oggetto di un complesso e paziente intervento di restauro filologico indirizzato a ricomporre e integrare il disegno originale del mosaico, è oggi inserita al centro di un moderno teatro d'acqua appositamente progettato per restituire gli eleganti effetti scenografici di un tempo.
