Lisbona è sicuramente fra le città più interessanti dell'Europa. Un'attrazione particolare è il tram, che è gestito attraverso una rete di binari di circa 94 km, dalla "Companhia Carris Ferro de Lisboa" (CARRIS). I piccoli tram, forse i più vecchi del mondo, passano su una rete di binari, che è unica per le straordinarie caratteristiche: un interasse di solo 900 mm, raggi di curvatura al di sotto dei 10 m, salite fino al 14,5% di pendenza, tratti a binario unico, passaggio in vicoli con ampiezza di soli 4 m, dove nessun autobus può transitare. Queste condizioni le troviamo, salendo a bordo delle linee 12 e 28, che attraversano lo storico quartiere dell'Alfama, le cui strade ripide e strette possono essere percorse solo da veicoli biassiali.
