Il monumento alle Scoperte o Padrao dos Descobrimentos in portoghese, situato sulla riva del fiume Tago a Lisbona di fronte al Monastero dos Jerónimos, fu realizzato nel 1960, a cinquecento anni dalla morte di Enrico il Navigatore, per celebrare l'era delle scoperte realizzate dai navigatori portoghesi fra il XV ed il XVI secolo. Il monumento venne iniziato sotto il regime di Salazar e voleva celebrare tutti i marinai che parteciparono alle grandi scoperte. Il monumento attuale non è però quello originale. La prima versione del monumento, costruita nel 1940 per l'esposizione universale Exposiçao do Mundo Portuguas, venne demolita nel 1958 in quanto costruita con materiali scadenti, era ridotta in condizioni da costituire pericolo per le persone che lo visitavano. L'attuale monumento è stato realizzato in pietra bianca. La caravella che costituisce il monumento porta lo scudo portoghese su entrambi i lati e la spada della Dinastia di Aviz sulla porta d'ingresso. Sulla prua della caravella è rappresentato Enrico il Navigatore con una caravella in mano; dietro di lui, in due file discendenti da entrambi i lati del monumento, sono rappresentati gli eroi portoghesi che parteciparono alle scoperte. Sul lato che da a occidente è ritratto il poeta Camaes con un esemplare del suo capolavoro I Lusiadi, il pittore Nuno Gonçalves con una spatola ed inoltre famosi navigatori, cartografi e re. A nord del monumento, una rosa dei venti di 50 metri di diametro, contiene al centro le rotte scoperte dai navigatori portoghesi, nel XV e XVI secolo. Venne fatta costruire nel 1960 dal Sudafrica. All'interno del monumento esiste un ascensore che porta a metà altezza e quindi una scala che conduce alla sommità del monumento da dove si ha una vista panoramica sul quartiere di Belém e sul fiume Tago.
