Specie a rischio di scomparsa in molti territori, a causa della riduzione degli ambienti umidi favorevoli al suo sviluppo. A variabilità molto bassa, si distingue bene dalla vicina A.palustris per il colore più scuro dei fiori, il labello nett.ripiegato e il lobo mediano più corto.
