La valle è la Val d'Ambria, collaterale della Val Venina a sud di Sondrio sulle Orobie. La bocchetta centrale è la Bocchetta di Podavite, a sx la cima è il Pizzo del Diavolo di Tenda e a dx il Monte Aga. La particolarità di questo lago (Lago di Zappello) è che è presente in primavera poi lentamente si asciuga lasciando spazio ad una piana d'erba
