Le vere da pozzo sono una caratteristica di Venezia. Basta questo a renderle interessanti. Sotto ogni vera c'era un grande serbatoio riempito d'acqua potabile; centinaia di vere vogliono dire centinaia di serbatoi pieni di acqua potabile, in parte prelevata dal fiume Brenta, trasportata in città dalla terraferma con appositi barconi, in parte acqua piovana, Queste acque venivano purificate facendole passare attraverso sabbia. Per secoli i pozzi garantirono la sopravvivenza agli abitanti di questa strana città costruita su isolette sparse in una laguna di acqua salata. Il palazzo risale al Quattrocento, residenza della famiglia Barbarigo. Nel Novecento è stato acquistato dall'Università Ca' Foscari ed ora è sede della Facoltà diLettere e Filosofia. Il palazzo è un perfetto esempio di edificio in stile gotico veneziano tre-quattrocentesco, .
