La Cattedrale risale al 1135, è in stile romanico nella parte inferiore della facciata e gotico in quella superiore ed è consacrata a San Giorgio. L'idea di una costruzione tanto imponente, in un luogo nuovo e deciso a tavolino, nacque da una forte volontà di affermazione della città, che in epoca medievale era soggetta al dominio della sede pontificia. Quando Ferrara fu la sfarzosa corte del grande Ercole I d'Este, la città arrivò al massimo splendore e la Cattedrale si ampliò. La facciata, ricca di interessanti sculture, è una delle più belle in Italia: vale una visita
