Il castello di Gioia del Colle fu edificato intorno al 1100 dal normanno Riccardo Siniscalco. Verso il 1230 subì un notevole ampliamento ad opera di Federico II. In età angioina ed aragonese seguirono limitati interventi di ampliamento e modifica. All'epoca sveva risalgono la sistemazione del cortile, i corpi di fabbrica relativi ad esso e la Torre dell'Imperatrice. Castello di Gioia del colle Il Castello, costruito in pietra calcarea e carparo rosso, dalla pianta quadrangolare con gli angoli rivolti ai quattro punti cardinali, ha due torri quadrilatere simili tra loro, ma costruite in epoche diverse, chiamate rispettivamente "Torre De Rossi" e "Torre Imperatrice", e un cortile interno. Le cortine e le torri presentano all'esterno bugne a bauletto. Dal portale principale e dall'androne si accede al cortile trapezoidale, dove si trova la scala di accesso al piano superiore. L'imperatore volle che questo castello, oltre a scopi difensivi, fosse adibito a dimora regale; infatti ivi visse Bianca Lancia, sua amante e madre di Manfredi. Il castello si trova nel centro abitato di Gioia ed ora è adibito a biblioteca comunale e museo archeologico; all'interno è possibile visitare la famosa Sala del Trono, fantasiosa ricostruzione del 1909.
