This is what, after so many years, I am still loving this beautiful form of expression.
Lens used, cutting the scene, of the subject and empathy with it, or vivid colors and especially the absence of light used are all available to the photographer to send, to the observer, with a single click, your message, or their emotions .

Capisco perfettamente le ragioni delle tue osservazioni, Paolo, e non ti devi assolutamente scusare per questo, anzi ti ringrazio per avermi fornito l'occasione per esprimere qualche indicazione circa il mio modo d'intendere la fotografia.
Come ho già avuto modo di dire rispondendo ad altri amici che hanno lasciato un commento, in questa galleria sull'Etiopia, in particolare su alcune etnie della valle dell'Omo, ho voluto proporre immagini che sottolineassero la peculiarità di queste popolazioni, formate da individuo alquanto schivi ma estremamente orgogliosi delle proprie tradizioni e di ciò che sono, individui che poi esprimo tutto questo deformando alcune caratteristiche del proprio volto oppure semplicemente pitturandosi il viso o il corpo.
Partendo da questa intenzione, già in fase di scatto, quindi, ho cercato, per quanto possibile, di concentrare la mia attenzione su questa loro affascinante forma di arte: avendo cura, ad esempio, di ritrarli sempre sotto una luce piena ed intensa, e successivamente, in sede di elaborazione, cercando di recuperare tutta la luce presente nel fotogramma esaltando al massimo la vivacità dei colori.
Certo è una mia scelta, ma sono d'accordo con te nel riconoscere che non è affatto l'unica possibile e neppure la più corretta: ti posso solo dire che per me è quella che più si avvicina al ricordo che ho di questa esperienza e delle peculiarità di queste meravigliose popolazioni.
Più in generale però, ti posso dire che, per quanto mi riguarda, la fotografia non è mai - e non può e non deve essere - una mera rappresentazione della realtà oggettiva (che a mio avviso comunque non esiste): credo sia una prerogativa del fotografo (così come lo è del pittore) filtrare la realtà attraverso la propria sensibilità, le proprie esperienze ed il proprio gusto, al fine di trasmettere una sola ed unica cosa: una emozione. Questo è quello che, dopo tanti anni, mi fa ancora amare questa splendida forma di espressione.
Obiettivo utilizzato, taglio della scena, inquadratura del soggetto ed empatia con esso, vividezza o assenza di colori e soprattutto luce utilizzata sono tutti elementi a disposizione del fotografo per trasmettere, a chi osserva, con un singolo scatto, il proprio messaggio o le proprie emozioni.
Ad esempio, in questa particolare foto, scattata in un mercato di Turmi sotto il sole abbagliante di mezzogiorno, ho attenuato e scurito al massimo la luminosità dello sfondo, proprio per sottolineare e concentrare l'attenzione sulla pittura rossa che ricopriva il volto sudato di questa timida ragazza Hamer.
Avrei potuto anche ricorre al bianconero, limitandomi così a massimizzare i contrasti, ma io non amo privare le mie foto della bellezza e della potenza del colore, soprattutto per riprendere popolazioni come queste, dal carattere aspro e forte, incredibilmente simile alle caratteristiche del territorio che abitano, e da una innata e fortissima passione per i colori.
E da quanto hai scritto nel tuo commento, Paolo, credo di essere riuscito, almeno in parte, a trasmettere queste mie sensazioni, anche se non sempre nel modo migliore possibile. Ma questo è chiaramente un mio limite, altrimenti sarei un fotografo famoso e non un semplice appassionato
