Tutti piuttosto confidenti, ma questo piccolo gruppo (sei) addirittura esagerato: più di una notte sono venuti a dormire su un termitaio dietro il mio bungalow. Se ne andavano alle 5:30 quando mi alzavo.
Qui si trovano ai bordi di una pozza che si stava prosciugando, piena di pesci gatto e tilapie rimaste intrappolate.
Io ero di ritorno dal villaggio dopo la spesa, luce pessima perfettamente verticale come si vede dall'ombra.
Mi sono fermato giusto per godermi il momento di pace (senza chiassosi clienti in macchina...).
Erano a pochi metri da me, sotto un cespuglio a fare grooming. Improvvisamente alzano le orecchi e puntano qualcosa in dirrezione della pozza. Mi giro e vedo anch'io il Monitor con qualcosa in bocca che nuota verso la sponda opposta.
"Loro" partono in direzione della lucertola, io mi metto la macchina fotografica sulle ginocchia e accendo la Land per seguirli. In prima col motore al minimo mi avvicino a una trentina di metri.
Loro sono eccitatissimi ma non sanno bene che fare. Il Monitor gonfia la gola, inarca la schiena e prepara la coda che usa come una frusta per difendersi. Incomincio a scattare e... "card full"! (e sulla 1D ce ne sono pure due...)
Il monitor fa fischiare la coda un paio di volte, i licaoni capiscono che non è il caso di insistere e manifestano la frustrazione correndo un po' intorno e accennando qualche "gioco" tra loro ma fa troppo caldo e dopo poco tornano all'ombra del cespuglio.
Io ho il tempo di sostituire le due schede e fare una lunga sequenza alla lucertola che sgranocchia la sua preda sotto un sole a picco. Potrebbero uscirne dei buoni B&W.
