Foto n.2 La fontana "La Nave" è un'opera scultorea dell'artista Pietro Cascella e rappresenta il principale monumento cittadino. Donata dall'artista al Comune di Pescara, è collocata dal 1987 presso Largo Mediterraneo (per i Pescaresi Piazza I Maggio), a ridosso dell'arenile sul lungomare della città. La fontana è formata da una vasca rettangolare in marmo di Carrara contenente una nave stilizzata che ricorda la "galea", antica imbarcazione a remi. Il richiamo è ispirato alla tradizione marinaresca della città; altre interpretazioni considerano la Nave una rievocazione dei patimenti subiti dai carcerati rinchiusi nella Fortezza Borbonica impiegati come rematori sulle navi spagnole fino al 1859. #notturno
