Calco in gesso offerto dal British Museum.La Stele di Rosetta è una lastra in granodiorite di 114 cm ? 72 cm che pesa circa 760 kg e che riporta un'iscrizione, divisa in registri, con tre differenti grafie: geroglifico, demotico e greco (dall'alto in basso). Demotico e Geroglifico non sono due lingue diverse ma due differenti grafie dell'egizio: il geroglifico era usato per testi incisi sui monumenti o in atti di particolare rilevanza mentre il demotico, che derivava da una semplificazione della grafia ieratica, era usato per documenti ordinari; nell' epoca tarda l'uso di redigere anche i testi ufficiali in demotico derivava dall'essersi ristretta quasi solamente alla classe sacerdotale la conoscenza della grafia geroglifica. Poiché il greco era conosciuto, la stele offrì una chiave decisiva per poter procedere alla comprensione dei geroglifici, e ciò avvenne nel 1822 ad opera di Jean-François Champollion. Nella Stele vi è riportato un decreto tolemaico in due lingue (ma tre grafie poiché l'egizio è presente sia in geroglifico che demotico) emesso nel 196 a.C. in onore del faraone Tolomeo V Epifane (al tempo tredicenne) in occasione del primo anniversario della sua incoronazione. Il testo riporta tutti i benefici resi al paese dal re, le tasse da lui abrogate, la conseguente decisione del clero di erigere in tutti i templi del paese una statua in suo onore, statue d'oro da collocare accanto a quelle degli dei e di indire numerosi festeggiamenti in onore del re. Stabilisce inoltre che il decreto sia pubblicato nella scrittura delle "parole degli dei" (geroglifici), nella scrittura del popolo (demotico) e in greco.

la piccola parte mancante del calco non è altro che una striscia di gesso con due staffe che tengono fissato al muro il tutto peraltro anche un pochino rovinata e ho deciso di tagliarla: mi sembra che questo reperto non venga tenuto in gran considerazione anche perché esposto in una saletta adibita a magazzino mummie e puoi passare senza neanche accorgerti della sua presenza. La stele di Rosetta e' sempre stata una tra le cose che piu' mi affascinano... L'ho vista 2 volte al British e nemmeno sapevo ce ne fosse una riproduzione al Museo Egizio di Torino..(e vivevo a 60km da li').
Mi piace molto il commento esplicativo (in molte tue foto).
Mi piace un po' meno l'effetto pagina di questo calco.. quella originale e' sospesa.. e il bordo cosi' caratteristico la rende ancora piu' tridimensionale.. (anche se e' infotografabile vista la calca che c'e' sempre e lo spesso vetro che la protegge)
