problema per il disturbo causato dai richiami di centinaia di migliaia di individui e per la
costruzione dei nidi in grondaie e scarichi che vengono così ostruiti. Infine, la specie è sospettata di
poter essere portatrice di varie malattie pericolose non solo per altri volatili ma per l'uomo stesso.
Nelle Fiji, ad esempio, gli esemplari sono stati identificati come vettori di pidocchi, trichine ed altri
vermi tondi (ISSG, 2006).
LA SITUAZIONE IN ITALIA
In Italia tentativi falliti di riproduzione di A. tristis sono stati osservati nel 1987 e nel
1995, rispettivamente a Castel Fusano e a Villa Carpegna (Roma). Inizialmente la presenza della
specie era considerata episodica e probabilmente attribuibile a soggetti di recente fuga dalla cattività
(Andreotti et al., 2001), poi aumentarono gli avvistamenti e nel 1992 venne accertata la
nidificazione a Roma (Brunelli, 1996) e dai primi anni 2000 nel comune di Salerno (Mancuso,
2003) e in Provincia di Caserta (Fraissinet et al., 2001). Altri avvistamenti di Maina comune
raccolti dalla Commissione Ornitologica Italiana riguardano nel 2002 la Puglia (Brichetti et al.,
2003) e nel 2003 Umbria e Lazio (Brichetti & Occhiato, 2004). La specie è segnalata anche nel
modenese (Bagni et al., 2003), e in Toscana si hanno avvistamenti di Acridotheres sp. a San
Rossore nel 1995 e presso la Bonifica di Coltano nel 2004 (Arcamone & Puglisi, 2006). Un
individuo probabilmente aufugo è stato fotografato a Staffarda in provincia di Cuneo (Sighele,
2007). La Maina comune è stata osservata anche nelle isole maggiori: in Sardegna la specie è
indicata come occasionale non nidificante (Grussu, 2008), in Sicilia le prime osservazioni risalgono
al 2002 e sono state effettuate dagli Autori a Messina (fig. 3), dove gli avvistamenti si sono ripetuti
