Antonio. Ciao Guido, intanto ti dico che il mio l'ho comprato nel 2001 ed è proprio il primo che hanno fatto e, mi dicono, che le versioni moderne sono megliori (giustamente). Per quanto riguarda il mio ti devo dire che per la qualità meccanica ho avuto dei problemi, dopo pochissimo tempo (4-5 mesi e senza aver fatto chissà che) si sono allentate delle viti interne e l'ho dovuto far rimettere a posto, da lì in poi nessun problema;
velocità autofocus:
secondo la mia impressione è andato sempre bene ma sicuramente gli obiettivi canon usm sono più veloci, con i moltiplicatori suoi (io ho sempre i primi che dopo 12 anni mi stanno dando problemi) rallenta visibilmente con il 2x e molto meno con l'1,4x
qualità ottica:
l'ho usato sempre con i diaframmi che vanno da 2,8 a 6,7 e non mi è dispiaciuto (2,8 è preferibile non usarlo)(considera però foto surfing e non naturalista dove la qualità ha un ruolo fondamentale) e per il surf ho avuto copertine e pubblicità su riviste specializzate quindi......
Che ti devo dire, certo che i canon sono migliori ma il prezzo.....

Ciao Guido, dalle tue gallery ho visto che fai foto surf e per ora non ho visto altro, allora, per il surf il sigma è andato benissimo anche se, come ben sai, a volte 300 mm sono pochi a seconda dello spot, con l'1,4x è andato comunque sempre bene sia come qualità ottica che come autofocus, poi ho visto che tu hai una eos 1D markII quindi vedrai che andrà bene (io l'ho usato con 20D, 350D ed ora con 550D), con il 2x ti confermo che per il surf non l'ho usato quasi mai per la qualità in quanto dovendo usare tempi di scatto brevissimi e preferendo sensibilità basse 100-200 ero costretto ad aprire tutto il diaframma con perdita qualitativa, magari chiudendo a 4-5,6 va meglio ma devi avere pieno sole ed alzare iso a 400 minimo.
