Nel mercato del bestiame di Kashgar è molto facile trovare bambini al lavoro, quasi sempre impiegati dagli stessi genitori per svolgere i lavori più umili. Questa è la foto di uno di essi, mentre consuma la sua scodella di riso all'interno di un recinto, in compagnia delle pecore che deve accudire. Quello che più mi compisce di questi piccoli è il loro sguardo sempre limpido, senza alcuna traccia di risentimento, di insofferenza o di vergogna. Per loro è normale dover aiutare i loro genitori. Di fronte a queste situazioni il mio pensiero torna sempre ad una frase di Robert Heinlein: "non danneggiate i vostri bambini rendendo loro la vita facile". Trovo sia una frase che contenga una grande verità, assolutamente ignorata nel mondo occidentale, troppo spesso applicata con grande severità, anche se per necessità, nel resto del mondo.
