Di Giovanni Bellini (1430-1516) esistono nelle Chiese di Venezia molte splendide Pale. Questa "Sacra Conversazione" si trova nella Chiesa di S. Zaccaria e rappresenta la Madonna col Bambino fra San Pietro e S. Caterina di Alessandria a sinistra, S. Lucia e S. Girolamo a destra. L'angelo ai loro piedi suona una lira da braccio. Dall'alto pendono una lampada veneziana e un uovo di struzzo, simbolo della maternità di Maria. Come molti altri capolavori la Pala fu trafugata dall'armata napoleonica, trasferita a Parigi e restituita nel 1815. Altri capolavori di questo pittore, che amo molto, si trovano nelle Gallerie dell'Accademia.
