Ali anteriori con una piccola macchia nera tra la prima e la seconda nervatura mediana e una macchia androconiale grigiastra dietro alla nervatura cubitale. Femmina: generalmente più grande e priva di androconio. Ali anteriori di colore bruno grigiastro con due grosse macchie rotonde nere tra la prima e la seconda nervatura mediana e tra la prima e la seconda cubitale, entrambe contenute in una fascia postmediana arancio pallida. Posteriori con tracce di fascia postmediana più chiara. Rovescio: Ali anteriori arancio con bordo marginale bruno grigiastro e una macchia ocellate nera pupillata di bianco tra la prima e la seconda nervatura mediana. Posteriori di colore bruno con accenno di fascia postdiscale più chiara tendente al grigiastro. Distribuzione: tutta Italia esclusa la Sardegna e l'isola d'Elba Habitat: prati e radure dal piano basale a quello montano e cacuminale, sino a circa 2500 metri s.l.m. Generazioni annuali: una con sfarfallamento in luglio-agosto Piante nutrici: Festuca sp, Poa sp, Bromus sp, Sipia pennata.
