hand held. Specie: Bison bison

Al Custer State Park in South Dakota in occasione dell'annuale Round Up.

Thank you very much. Between the two versions (b / w or color) which do you prefer?

Why do I only see in miniature the color version and full screen I only see one in b / w?
Shooting really very interesting and, if you want ... "Awesome"! :-P
Congratulations on an excellent achievement: it makes its very good idea of ??the herd ... "Advances" at full speed!
Between the two (b / w and color) I would tend to prefer the version ... colors! :-D
Regards, Paul

Thanks Paul. I made the change in b / w after uploading the photo on the forum and this explains the double version. I can not decide: the color has more "oomph" and the other a certain flavor evocative of when the herds of bison dominated the Great Plains of North America ...

Thanks Mark. I am new to Juza and I started recently to photograph due to retirement. I had been to the Nikon F and I'm discovering digital. I am looking for friends to increase my knowledge in this world

L 'I regarded several times but I honestly do not understand it and it intrigues me.
You've photographed a monitor (see also the title ..), is a framework?
I do not think a photo taken in the wild, unfortunately I do not know if there is still a chance to see that kind of scene ........

The photo was taken last year in the month of September to Custer State Park in South Dakota during the annual Round Up. It is an event which involves over 20,000 people watching from the top of two hills herd of bison that cowboys gather in this valley sheltered for the winter. The park is home to around 1,500 bison, and each year the excess is sent to repopulate other parks in North America. I've got a fifty photos of that day in addition to the film shot by a friend of mine. If you are still unsure then let me know and I can send you the photos in sequence of the herd approaching and the party that follows. About the title is not a joke: Dances with Wolves was filmed them and the famous "tatanka" were precisely those of Custer Park. Live the context is not so "virgin": as I said there are many people on the sides ofthe valley, a huge parking lot for its cars and to assim cowboys on horseback can be seen even those with pick up but I assure you that the scene is really huge: last year we have seen with 600/700 bison but talking to aficionados who take part each year the herd is usually much more numerous. I'm here for any further information and thanks for your attention

Between the two versions I prefer the one in B & W because in part is better digest the grain effect and the effect of vitreous. In this regard I ask why the poor quality of this not having posted the shooting data. hello, laurel

During that trip I started photographing after more than twenty years and did not know for anything digital. The photo was taken with a bridge CanonSX40HS far from making full use of the zoom definitely very modest

Very interesting your explanation, no doubt about it, God forbid!
E 'was the quality of' image to make me think that this may have been something other than a photo taken from real life ... ;-)

I also saw the second picture where you understand the situation better but it takes away a lot of poetry .....

.. Then you must have carelessly left the Digital Zoom range and maybe you've even cropped: fconfuso:

The digital zoom was certainly active but does not know what it is cropped. I'm here to learn and I am grateful to all those who help me along this path ... Thanks Lauro

Crop and is a term all Italian and is derived from crop or cropping. In order to bring more subjects may be that you have cut out (using photo editing program) the edges of losing further quality ;-)
Your sensor is then very small, for example a bridge as the Panasonic 200exr has the larger sensor of 60% compared to your Canon SX40: 1/1.7 "7.8x5.8mm vs 1/2.3" 6.2x4.6mm
Search in the manual of the Canon SX40 how to turn off the digital zoom while and keep only the optical ... later, who knows .. maybe do the big jump taking any entry-level SLR clinging 2 optics as a 17-50mm and 70-300mm, depending on the photographic situation :-)

It 's so in fact, but I have to say that I do not mind the image perhaps because at the time I loved the texture of the films.
Thank you very much, you've been really helpful. Have a nice evening

I like it too ot the grain (analog) and / or noise (digital) but not the vitreous / oily 8-)

can you give me an indication for a good understanding of vitreous / oily?

It is not a uniform grain nor sharp. The dots are immersed in the artifacts and spaces pasty / glassy.

Davvero un bellissimo scatto ! peccato solo per la scarsa qualità dello zoom digitale.
Sia l'immagine a colori che quella in bianco e nero sono affascinanti, ma personalmente preferisco il marroncino desertico di quella a colori MrGreen
