Maschio: colore arancio con disegno maculare nero più o meno esteso. Ali posteriori con macchie nere submarginali collegate tra loro in un disegno continuo angoloso. Velatura basale nera. Femmina: simile al maschio ma generalmente più grande e con ali anteriori di colore più pallido e talvolta velate di nero. Rovescio: ali anteriori di colore arancio con apice giallognolo e disegno maculare nero ridotto. Posteriori con spazi basali, ampia fascia postdiscale e fascia marginale giallognole inframezzate da due fasce, più o meno continue, arancio. Distribuzione: tutta Italia, escluse le isole. Habitat: prati dal piano basale a quello montano, sino a circa 1700 metri s.l.m. Generazioni annuali: due con sfarfallamento in maggio-giugno e agosto.
