Marrakech 2013 sent on September 30, 2013 (20:13) by Jeronim. 27 comments, 1725 views.

at 200mm, 1/100 f/4.0, ISO 500, hand held. Istanbul, Turkey.

Thanks Mark for the passage and the welcome comment. I've tried other versions cut as you suggest, but in the end, convinces me more and more the subject at the center bottom. The idea is to not over-emphasize the subject leaving plenty of room on the back of the structure that seems to "protect" the girl with the light and creates an angle of shelter and intimacy.
A warm greeting.

The thing that struck me was the reference to the tone of the turabante areas of light and shadow of the structure: the girl seems to be an integral part of this corner of Marrakech! Congratulations, beautiful!

Reply to thread.
Taking great impact, composition and light and the contrast between them, the beautiful chiaroscuro bounded by construction. Looking at it I am reminded of something forbidden and the proud look of the girl charge of "emotionality" shooting.
Great job, really ...

in the center, between the dark and the light, perhaps you can 'understanding between tradition and modernity'.
Take it as the comment of an incompetent, more 'than anything else it seems to me that the figure is too cut in context.

Hello Jeronim,

I understand the choice of framing for the reasons you stated but if I can please me the choice to put in a central position on the subject, I like a little 'less its location too "low" in comparison to the frame.

Beautiful contrast between light and shadow but I consider the framing too burdensome for the subject, which is too "relegated".

It 'just a matter of my personal taste that does not alter the value of the shot.

;-)

Comment from thread
Hello Jeronim. Photo not easy for me. I'm very attached to the technicalities and formalities and that makes me prone to biases. For example, the position of the subject, on the centrality of the frame and the lights that divide the image in half. But the photo I like. Your concept of'' no idea, it seems to me perfectly applied. The relationship between the structure looming and the woman I see only thanks to your premise and I recognize it, otherwise he would have won my bias above. I'm not entirely convinced that your caption, the message described steps with immediacy, I repeat that for me is not an easy photo. A greeting.

@ Charles Cozzutti
Dear Charles, I bet you'd appreciate, as opposed to other, framing unorthodox. Your approval convinces me even more about my choices.
A warm greeting.

@ Erre, Paco68 @, @ Paul Corona
I gathered you (I hope is not unwelcome) in response because you did, more or less, the same observations. Meanwhile, thank you for the time that you have dedicated and comments argued and reasoned.
I say mine, who does not want to be a defense to the bitter end of my choices, but just an exchange of ideas for this photo I have tried many different cuts, with the girl to the side left and right, center, etc. higher. In the end I opted for this little shot canonical because I find that, what for you is a defect, for me is one of the qualities that give strength to the image. A more classic would have penalized the structure behind. The result would have been more mundane: a good portrait, such as one sees so many, without groped to go "beyond". Alsothe three age composition vertical, gray, dark gray, clear, would lose "weight" in the system generally.
I will reflect more on your observations, but for now I would do the photos the same way. It's just my idea, maybe you're right eh!
Greetings to all.
Franco

The rules are made to be broken, and if the result is' this ....

I respect your idea and that's okay for the way you described :-)
the fact that you see and do not see the face, plays an important role

In response to the thread www.juzaphoto.com/topic2.php?l=it&t=583305&show=8
They fought in looking at this photograph. Fought because it is distant from the canons and the classic rules of photography, but nevertheless able to communicate feelings and emotions (the girl's gaze is not expressionless, not at all).
At the same time it is didactic, the three vertical lines of light and shadow, are repeated horizontally on the veil and the girl's face though not in the same sequence.
At this point I have to ask, a photograph that has broken (more or less consciously, in this case Franco did it knowingly, others unknowingly breaking) the rules is considered to be always less valid than one that follows a dot ?
A judgeking by this result I would say no, but not always the case.
Watch and try to understand your photographs, Franco, is really a challenge for me, they are really difficult to read for the untrained eye like mine. Luckily you have created the thread and captions, which are really of great help.
Thank you.

Congratulations Franco, I really like your shot! :-) I did not understand why you left "almost" completely ... the face in shadow, because in my humble point of view I would have left face half in light and half have not, to give a feeling of transition of an era that women of that country, compared with the previous years, are having a role a bit 'more important in their society (emerging) ... but then reading the explanation of the photo I understood very well the reason for that choice ... and according to my taste is a fabulous shot! ;-)
Again congratulations
I'm sorry if I have dwelt a little bit! :-)
Best wishes
hello

Hello Franco
Great shot. I really appreciate the cut out of the canonical rules. In fact, the rules are also made not to be met, especially in the case of the face deliberately. The strength (IMHO) and the look of the girl, even more commendable given the reluctance of people to be photographed in those places
Comes out strongly in knowing how your sensitivity to "see" beyond ....
With appreciation (and even a little 'with envy) I salute you
Guido

@ Bzanna3
Dear Barbara, I am very pleased to make your passage and your appreciation. I also find it very interesting what you write on the subject of rules and image understanding. Yours is the difficulty to give a reason for what we like surprises us, gives us emotion, a sense of harmony, while not presenting itself as we would have imagined and wanted. The photograph, as I often say, is a mystery: you can approach to its solution, without ever reach it. Being able to understand our feelings even when we move away from our beliefs, our rational certainties, is a step towards the solution of the mystery.
If you have difficulty in reading of my images, ask.
Best wishes and thanks again!
Franco
