Debre Libanos è uno dei più importanti monasteri copti ed attira una moltitudine di pellegrini e mendicanti. Il tempio è stato teatro di uno dei più vergognosi episodi legati all' Italia coloniale del periodo coloniale fascista quando Graziani ordinò di massacrare gli abitanti del monastero, credendo erroneamente che i monaci ed i diaconi fossero coinvolti nel tentativo di attentato contro di lui. Senza nessuna indagine furono trucidati centinaia di persone tra monaci e pellegrini. Etiopia 2013
