Tower Bridge is a Grade I listed combination drawbridge and suspension bridge in London, built between 1886 and 1894. It was designed by Horace Jones and designed by John Wolfe Barry with assistance from Henry Mark Brunel.[1] It crosses the River Thames near the Tower of London. The bridge is 240 m (790 ft) long and consists of two 65 m (211 ft) tall towers, connected at the upper level by two horizontal gangways, and a central pair of arches that can be opened to allow shipping. Originally hydraulically powered, the operating mechanism was changed to an electro-hydraulic system in 1972.
