La leggenda della monetina nella Fontana di Trevi prevede che il lancio di una moneta garantisca il ritorno a Roma, due portino un nuovo amore e tre conducano al matrimonio. Il rito richiede di dare le spalle alla fontana e lanciare la moneta con la mano destra sopra la spalla sinistra. La tradizione moderna è stata resa celebre nel mondo dal film del 1954 Tre soldi nella fontana di Trevi. Ogni anno dal fondo della vasca vengono raccolti oltre un milione di euro in monete. Il denaro recuperato dal Comune viene interamente donato in beneficenza per aiutare i più bisognosi.
