Quattro parroci di Brendola (VI) costituirono nel 1926 un comitato per costruire una nuova chiesa atta ad unire tutti i brendolani sotto un unico campanile centrale, sia religiosamente sia geograficamente parlando. Il 14 ottobre 1928 il vescovo Ferdinando Rodolfi giunse alla Piazza del Cerro, l’area acquistata per la costruzione, dando il suo benestare per l’avvio dei lavori e, otto il progetto dell’architetto Fausto Franco, la prima pietra fu posata il 3 ottobre 1931 e la sua costruzione unì molti abitanti anche di diverse fazioni, dando ragione ai parroci che vollero tale soluzione. Nell’estate del 1933 la costruzione iniziava a prendere forma ma l’arciprete incaricato di tenere d’occhio i lavori, don Francesco Cecchin, si ammalò e i lavori rallentarono. Una volta terminata la facciata fu posta sulla sua cima una statua di San Michele Arcangelo alta 4 metri scolpita da Giuseppe Zanetti. In piena Seconda Guerra Mondiale però, il cantiere si bloccò senza più ripartire, per cause ancora non del tutto chiare: rimane perciò una costruzione incompiuta di quasi 30 metri e 1124 metri quadrati ben visibile sul colle del Cerro, anche se lasciata al degrado per più di 60 anni, durante i quali sono stati proposti vari progetti senza mai alcuna conclusione.
