Myškin è una cittadina della Russia europea centrale, situata sulla sponda sinistra del fiume Volga, 85 chilometri a ovest del capoluogo Jaroslavl'; è il capoluogo del distretto omonimo. La fondazione della cittadina risale indietro nel tempo fino al XV secolo; lo status di città, ottenuto sotto il regno di Caterina II nel 1777, le venne revocato nel periodo sovietico e successivamente riconcesso nel 1991. Il suo nome deriva dalla parola russa, che significa topo, secondo una leggenda che riguarda la fondazione della cittadina; a questo animale è dedicato un museo. la leggenda dice che un duca/principe (non ha senso di nominare il suo nome) essendo stanco dopo la caccia si é addormentato ed é stato svegliato da un topo che si é messo sulla sua faccia. il principe si é arrabbiato, ma subito dopo ha notato un serpente in avvicinamento. il principe ha capito che il topo gli aveva salvato la vita per ringraziamento ha costruito una cappella dedicata al topo sul posto del accaduto, e ha fondato la cittá.
