Mentre i villaggi galleggianti si spostano all’interno del lago in base al livello dell’acqua, essendo costruiti su zattere di bambù legate fra loro e ancorate al fondo, i villaggi costruiti su palafitte durante la stagione secca si elevano di quasi 10 metri sulla superficie del lago, mentre durante la stagione piovosa sembrano galleggiare sulle acque placide del lago fissati al suolo.
