Il villaggio sul fiume è costruito su palafitte per ovviare all'escursione dell'acqua sul lago Tonlé Sap durante le abbondanti piogge. Qui nelle immagini il livello dell’acqua è relativamente basso ma non come nei periodi di siccità, quando le palafitte si stagliano contro il cielo davvero altissime viste dal livello del fiume. Pensare che a volte vengano addirittura allagate le abitazioni durante le piene del lago fa una certa impressione. La foto di copertina mostra l'attracco dei piccoli traghetti che portano i gruppi dei turisti alla visita del lago.

Nei mesi invernali l’acqua si abbassa ancora quindi per arrivare alle rive del fiume è necessario scendere gli scalini della piazza come si osserva nelle due foto (sopra di repertorio in un depliant, sotto durante la mia visita). Quando il livello sale, invece, tutto sotto la piazza viene coperto dall’acqua.




Nel piccolo porticciolo sul fiume ci imbarchiamo per una piacevole gita con un tour in barca attraverso i canali fino a raggiungere il lago vero e proprio.
