Terminato il tour dei templi di Angkor Wat siamo stati attirati dall’idea di visitare un villaggio ancora autentico, siamo andati alla scoperta di Kompong Khleang l’insediamento più grande della zona, una delle comunità più grandi sul Lago Tonlé Sap distante 50 chilometri da Siem Reap è quasi una città rispetto agli altri villaggi, decisione presa unanimemente dal gruppo. Come a Kompong Pluk, quasi tutte le case sono costruite su alte palafitte per via delle notevoli variazioni del livello dell’acqua. Rispetto ai villaggi galleggianti più vicini a Siem Reap, sono pochi i turisti che arrivano fin qui, ma ciò è un buon motivo per visitarla. Sul lago la cittadina di palafitte è un luogo interessante dove trascorrere almeno una giornata, noi abbiamo fatto anche un pernottamento dopo aver assistito al tramonto nelle acque del lago a bordo in un piccolo traghetto, che documenterò qui in galleria.

Lasciata la strada principale che prosegue verso Phnom Penh, ci inoltriamo nelle campagne fino a raggiungere un fiume che seguiamo. Sulle sue rive scorrono le prime case costruite su palafitte. Finito l’asfalto, una strada in terra battuta si inoltra nel villaggio fino ad una grossa piazza, dove il pulmino parcheggia, a poche decine di metri dalla maestosa statua del Buddha dorato.
