Le rovine di Angkor sono notoriamente intrecciate con l'ambiente naturale, soprattutto a Ta Prohm, creando una fusione di inquietante bellezza tra architettura e giungla. La vegetazione ha avuto ragione di questo luogo di culto inglobandolo interamente nella giungla e soffocandolo con le radici al punto di strangolare intere parti del tempio, letteralmente alla mercé dei ficus strangolatori che si sono impossessati delle rovine, inglobando i muri nel loro tronco.
