Nei giorni della visita ai templi di Angkor Wat abbiamo trovato scenari con architetture e situazioni mistiche che ci hanno lasciato una bella sensazione ad ogni tempio visitato, ma l'aspettativa per Ta Prohm era molto alta, complice la location del film di Lara Croft "Tomb Raider" girato tra queste rovine, con il primo incontro stupefacente con lo straordinario strangolatore. Le rovine di Angkor sono notoriamente intrecciate con l'ambiente naturale. Alti alberi di fico d'India e fico strangolatore crescono attraverso le pareti dei templi, soprattutto a Ta Prohm, creando una fusione di inquietante bellezza tra architettura e giungla.

Per via della vegetazione che ha avuto ragione di questo ed altri luoghi di culto inglobandoli interamente nella giungla, molti di questi templi sono letteralmente alla mercé dei ficus strangolatori che si sono impossessati delle rovine, inglobando i muri nel loro tronco.
