Africactenus unumus appartiene alla famiglia Ctenidae che comprende ragni notturni ed erranti, presenti con più di 500 specie in tutta la fascia tropicale, con la caratteristica disposizione oculare 2-4-2. Tuttavia, i ragni ctenidi sono stati poco studiati in India e solo nel 2018 il genere Africactenus è stato descritto nel paese con la scoperta di A.unumus nel distretto del Kerala, genere che come si può intuire dal nome, si credeva fosse tipico del continente africano. La recente scoperta di A.unumus e la revisione di altri Ctenidi nella stessa area ha permesso di ampliare le conoscenze sulla distribuzione di questi ragni, evidenziando inoltre la grande biodiversità presente nei Ghati occidentali.
