The mere fact of having shot deserves a good in itself.

I like a lot as frozen perfectly on a background super.
The view might not convince me all the way but it is just my point of view.

Thanks to all for the comments.

The background is a pond mountain (Asiago) and the choice of the diaphragm is a middle ground between the PDC and the bokeh achieved.
I was lucky enough to do several tests and I tested the 100mm IS, 24-70L and 70-200.
The distance was not a problem but the ability to make fire. At the end of the size and softness of the focus ring of the 70-200 allowed me to have that calm (calm so to speak) for point and shoot.

Thanks to all!
capturing in this case is, however, a mix of patience, anticipation and BURST! if I had the 7D instead of the 5D would have more chances to get shots in focus but perhaps less workspace and the dragonfly was moving very fast to the point that I would just waiting in the areas that you have already covered in the flight.

Great capture and perfect timing. It is always a challenge to take a sharp DIF picture. You managed to do it perfectly!

Hi my friend, I remember you Grzehoofr and thanks for the kind comment.

It was very hard to take this shot, I used the 70-200 Because The zoom ring is very fast to set (better than the 180 or the 100IS).
I hope to make more shots this summer because i will go to this place again.

Dragonflies in flight is very difficult to photograph. I admire your persistence. Good capture. Well done.

Some weeks ago, I forgo my lunch and sat by a lily pond for 2 hours trying to photograph a red dragonfly in flight with 300f4. I must say I failed miserably and was thinking perhaps I need a proper macro lens. Good to know that the 70-200's speed is faster than 180 or the 100is for this purpose. You just helped me saved some money :-P

yes, the 70-200 is better in action! the lens lenght and the handling are good to follow the dragonfly.
The most important thing is the background quality( better if flat) and the shotting rate of your camera :) I used 7D with manual focus.
I also tried with a "500D close up lens" mounded in front of the lens but is more difficult for the magnification.
