Chiesa parrocchiale di Santa Maria e i XII Apostoli di Bagnara Calabra fu fondata nel 1085 dal conte Ruggero e consacrata nel 1117 alla presenza del conte Ruggero II. Dotata di una cospicua rendita annua, fu sempre oggetto di particolare attenzione da parte dei Pontefici e di singolare protezione da parte dei Sovrani dell'ex reame di Napoli. Dopo il terremoto del 1908 fu completamente ricostruita... Attualmente la Chiesa abbaziale, Chiesa Madre dell'antico centro di Bagnara, è immobile di notevole interesse storico-artistico tutelato ai sensi del testo unico in materia di beni culturali del 2004.
