Himantoglossum robertianum è un'orchidea mediterranea robusta ed imponente, con uno stelo vigoroso e una densa spiga di fiori rosa-violacei che può raggiungere i 30-80 cm. Cresce in ambienti generalmente aperti e soleggiati (prati aridi, garighe, radure boschive) ed è diffusa in gran parte del bacino del Mediterraneo, dalla Penisola Iberica all'Italia, dal Nord Africa alla Grecia, con una recente tendenza ad espandersi verso nord.
