Excellent cutting and framing that make very good idea and the atmosphere ... almost hear the roar of the wildebeest :-)
The conversion to b & w, even if well executed, does not convince me, or better ... I'd like to see the color version.

Così ho appreso da professionisti, uno su tutti NICK BRANDT "Africa black and White" www.nickbrandt.com A me questa foto piace molto;-)

Not everyone appreciates the BW for this kind of pictures and I think it's a shame. When the light is so harsh creates strong contrasts and sharp shadows, it becomes very difficult to give an eye-catching color rendering, the BW instead lends itself being able to play with light and shadow and the right amount of contrast. So I learned from professionals, one on all NICK BRANDT "Black Africa and White" www.nickbrandt.com I really like this photo ;-)

This also, in my opinion, is within the different personal ways of "reading" of the photo.
In my opinion, the colors of Africa, more than in other places, are one of the aspects that most characterizes this continent, especially when it comes to nature, but not limited to (I think the markets ...). Among other things, the fact of being faced with such a sight, surrounded bya flood of wild animals and free, in a landscape such as the mara, I think it's one of the most "real" that you may live, which is why I find it hard to appreciate the absence of color in these shots, it seems to me to be too "distorted".
Brandt's undeniable that some shots are very nice though, according to me, are part of a type of photography different from what I mean by nature, without this, of course, detract the final result.
Even with light difficle you can get excellent results: www.juzaphoto.com/galleria.php?t=511355&l=it

Ciao a tutti!

Thank you all for the comments.
Nkoringo, there is nothing to apologize for, I appreciate the discussion generated by qs. version b / w (by the way ... fantastic pictures in b / w Nick Brandt - I also recommend another of his publication "A Shadow Falls").
I fully agree that the colors of Africa are unique and special and should be shown in all their natural beauty. However, there are some situations that, in my opinion, makes it well in b / w; Pmaffio has hit the reason for my conversion in b / w. Of course, tastes are personal. I also posted another photo on the great migration of wildebeest and with the mass of horns on the run, virtually monochromatic photo that such would not change ever in b / w, even though it might lend itself to a similar game.
However, if someone tells me how to insert the color version of this shotin the comments of qs. discussion, the audience and then judge for yourself. ;-):-P

Certo Roberta,

Attendo...Eeeek!!!MrGreen

Of course Roberta,
I do not discuss personal tastes, among other things, the opinions of two photographers like you and that you have submitted Pmaffio gorgeous shots, are to be considered "regardless" I just wanted to understand why I do find it hard to appreciate this kind of shots in b / w.

To insert the picture should be enough charge in the gallery, open it, copy the 'URL and insert it in the text (as I did in the previous comment).

I look ... wow! :-D

I saw the color version. As I supposed, harsh light and deep shadows make the color very cold, I much prefer the BW, refined and elegant. ;-)

Jerry also expressed his opinion on the comparison b / w and color.
Now I miss the opinion of Nkoringo.

Eccomi...;-)

Ciao a tutti

Here I am ... ;-)

What about ... it is true, the light is hard, the sharp shadows, color is not particularly hot, but so I can see the various shades of green, perhaps in the distance the part where the animals have eaten and that seems to mark a boundary, in fact. .. I see Africa "true" I know.
Having said that I agree that the version b / w is successful and that the result is still pleasant, I see only "another photo", an interpretation of the original that fits perfectly with commentary by Jerry.
In short: I like both, but "my" is the color ;-)

Sorry for the abuse of "quotation marks" :-)

Grazie Sorriso e buona luce a tutti!

I'm glad that for one reason, or another, to the end that my shot was appreciated, b / w or color it is.
But I like even more the idea that "my" photo has become a bit 'a "your" photos.
Thanks :-) and good light at all!

A show excellent black and white that goes well with the light conditions ...
Although in nature I love the color, I have to admit that I love it!
