In alcune zone dell'Etna è possibile rinvenire queste particolarissime formazioni vulcaniche: Le Pietra cannone. Questo si verifica quando una colata lavica molto fluida investe e avvolge un'albero, carbonizzandone il fusto. Il tronco brucia lentamente , e quando si incenerisce del tutto , la lava esternamente si è già solidificata , lasciando una cavità , a volte molto ampia, simmetrica e rotonda, simile ad un cannone. Affascinante per me pensare che dove c'è la mia macchina fotografica una volta scorresse la linfa vitale di un grande albero tragicamente spazzato via dalla forza di un'eruzione dell'Etna.
