Distribuzione in Italia: Presente in tutte le regioni, isole comprese, ad eccezione della Sardegna. Habitat: Ampie radure e incolti soleggiati dal livello del mare sino a oltre 2000 m. Periodo di volo: Polivoltina con sfarfallamenti che si susseguono da marzo a metà ottobre. Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Varie graminacee dei generi Poa, Bromus, Festuca, ecc. Dimorfismo sessuale: La femmina è leggermente più grande e con l'apice dell'ala anteriore più arrotondato. Il maschio presenta al centro dell'ala anteriore, sul diritto, una larga banda scura, costituita da squame androconiali, che si stringe e si incurva presso la costa. Variazioni: Gli esemplari della prima generazione sono più piccoli rispetto a quelli estivi. Specie simili: Lasiommata paramegaera, limitata alla Sardegna.
