Sfruttando lo strato d'inversione termica sotto i 2.500 metri di quota, sono salito in notturna in un buio spesso e lattiginoso che mi sono lasciato alle spalle dopo circa 3 ore di cammino. Raggiunto il punto di ripresa (3105 m) mi sono trovato, man mano che l'alba avanzava, al di sopra di un suggestivo mare di nuvole. Alla destra il Monviso (3841 m), con la catena ad anfiteatro che si dispiega al suo fianco lambita dalle dense brume sottostanti. Dal momento che il punto in cui il sole sorge si sposta sensibilmente verso il Monviso man mano che le giornate si accorciano, ho potuto includerlo nella foto, cosa che comprometterebbe di molto l'imponenza delle montagne nei mesi a cavallo del solstizio. Il problema più grosso è stato maneggiare cavalletto e fotocamera con i circa - 10 gradi C e le dita praticamente insensibili. HDR di 3 foto con 1 EV di scarto.
