Preah Khan Temple – che in lingua Khmer significa “Il Tempio della Sacra Spada” – è situato a nord di Angkor Thom. Commissionato dal sovrano Jayavarman VII alla fine del XII secolo, Preah Khan fu utilizzato temporaneamente come residenza reale, in attesa del completamento di Angkor Thom. Il complesso è dedicato al padre di Jayavarman VII, come testimoniano le numerose immagini di Lokeshvara realizzate con il volto del padre del sovrano.

Dei percorsi pavimentati conducono all'area centrale del complesso. Quest'ultima fu realizzata all'interno di una cinta muraria a pianta rettangolare.

La parte centrale del complesso di Preah Khan Temple comprende numerosi strutture come Ta Prohm Temple “conglobate” dalle radici di enormi alberi secolari.

Nota caratteristica e misteriosa è la presenza di una struttura situata nell'area orientale del complesso realizzata a due livelli

è caratterizzata da una serie di colonne decorate con uno stile tipico dell'antica Grecia (foto sotto).
