In questo paesaggio marziano, ai piedi del monte Námafjall, l'area geotermica di Hverir è uno degli angoli più surreali d'Islanda. Fumarole che soffiano vapore carico di zolfo, pozze di fango che ribollono senza sosta e colori che vanno dal nero vulcanico al giallo sulfureo, fino al rosso ferroso delle montagne. Camminare qui è come entrare in un altro pianeta: l'odore pungente, il calore che sale dal suolo e i sibili del vapore ti ricordano quanto sia viva e potente la natura sotto i nostri piedi. Un luogo estremo, affascinante e un po' alieno, che non si dimentica facilmente.
