Antonino Cangialosi è un maestro del ferro , l'ultimo a Bagheria a conservare i segreti di un'arte. L'unico in grado di produrre ancora i rabeschi che decorano i carri e tutte le parti in metallo del carretto siciliano. Posso farle un ritratto con la fotocamera? "Prima devo indossare il grembiule" Qui sta tutta la dignità ed il rispetto per il suo mestiere di fabbro che svolge da ben 78 anni. "Mastru Ninu" aveva 5 anni quando arriva a bottega e gli serve una pietra sulla quale stare per poter raggiungere i ripiani dove battere e ritorcere il ferro. Serve tempo, pazienza, forza e tanta fatica. Solo dopo anni il mestiere si impara, impensabile in un mondo rapido come quello di oggi. "Servono 3 mesi di lavoro per completare le sponde del carretto siciliano" Non appena accende il carbone ed alza la fiamma l'aria si fa calda dentro l'officina. Sempre di più, ma "mastru Ninu", così lo conoscono nei dintorni, non si ferma neanche un attimo. Vedo scivolare gocce di sudore dal suo volto, sento io stesso la fatica del forte calore. Eppure sono distante. Mi meraviglio a vedere le sue mani entrare dentro la fornace e maneggiare il ferro. Mastru Nino non si ferma, non è sua abitudine lasciare il lavoro incompleto. In mano ha dei ferri informi che si infiammano a rossore. Colpo dopo colpo si appiattiscono e ritorcono sotto il peso del martello che esplode scintille ad ogni contatto con il ferro. Poi di nuovo la fiamma ed ancora colpi di martello, che precisi colpiscono e scolpiscono i dettagli del ferro. Di nuovo fuoco, martello ed acqua per raffreddare. Sino ad estrarre due pezzi identici da rifinire con la mola circolare. Sono i "crocchi ri trattenuti", pezzi che appartenevano all'imbardatura dei cavalli che trainavano i tradizionali carretti siciliani. Grazie a lui in questo spazio nascosto in una stradina di Bagheria viene custodita la memoria di un mondo antico. Gli sarò grato per sempre per gli attimi che mi ha permesso di immortalare e le emozioni che mi ha trasmesso con i suoi gesti e le sue parole.
