Gaesavatn è un lago situato in una delle zone più remote d'Islanda. Noi lo abbiamo raggiunto in 3 giorni di cammino da Seydjsfjordur, percorrendo il Viknaslodir trail. Ci si può avvicinare anche con fuoristrada percorrendo una tortuosa e dissestata strada di montagna in circa 1 ora e mezza dall'abitato di Bakkagerdi (100 abitanti nella stagione estiva)
