Al ritorno da un viaggio in Colombia, davvero emozionante per la grande biodiversità e il numero di bellissimi uccelli osservati (289 specie): colibrì, tucani, motmot, trogoni, picchi, barbuti, formichieri, pitte formichiere, cotinghe, manachini, tanagre e molti, molti altri. Visti e fotografati quasi tutti i più desiderati fra cui alcune specie davvero rare e iconiche. Tra queste senza dubbio il gatto tigre (Leopardus tigrinus), conosciuto anche come tigrillo o oncilla, specie all'esordio nel forum, un piccolo felide diffuso nelle foreste pluviali del Centro e Sud America. Il gatto tigre assomiglia ai suoi congeneri Ocelot e Margay, ma è più piccolo, slanciato e dal muso più allungato. Ha un folto mantello color ocra, maculato con rosette nere. È un animale notturno che caccia piccoli mammiferi, lucertole e uccelli. La specie predilige ambienti di foresta pluviale e nelle Ande della Colombia è stata avvistata fino ai 4.500 m di altitudine. È un felino molto schivo e viene difficilmente avvistato e fotografato in natura. Secondo la Lista Rossa IUCN, i Gatto tigre sono rari ovunque nel loro habitat, con una popolazione totale in forte declino, per perdita dell'habitat e bracconaggio. La specie è attualmente classificata come Vulnerabile (VU) nella Lista delle Specie Minacciate. Caldas, Colombia, Agosto 2025.
