Forse non tutti sanno che quella che ammiriamo oggi è però solo una copia della fontana originale, realizzata nel 1989 da uno scultore sudamericano. L'originale (ciò che ne rimane, dopo varie vicissitudini, danneggiamenti delle truppe napoleoniche, scomparse e ritrovamenti) si trova ora in una loggia del Palazzo dei Trecento, in Piazza dei Signori.
