Il suo nome mi era giunto all'orecchio in svariate circostanze in questi ultimi anni. Ogni volta pronunciato da qualcheduno che ne lasciava intendere rispetto e ammirazione profondi. In più di un'occasione l'ho sfiorato di passaggio in qualche viaggio. Fin quando finalmente ho avuto modo di raggiungerlo nella bottega di falegnameria che da lungo tempo porta avanti a Sava, bel borgo adagiato sulle murge tarantine ormai protese al Salento. Antonio, che per vivere costruisce mobili di pregio, è in realtà uno straordinario ebanista e liutaio, di una capacità che mai mi sarebbe più capitato di incontrare. Oltre alla bottega, ha dedicato la sua vita alla produzione di strumenti medievali, rinascimentali e barocchi. E' un uomo di una ruvida gentilezza, schietta e diretta. Preso tra mille cose, trova comunque il modo di dedicarmi un paio d'ore durante le quali mi trovo di fronte ad opere che davvero fatico a capacitarmi di come possano essere state riprodotte dalle abilità di questo solo uomo. La quantità di dettagli, intarsi, intagli, la ricchezza e diversità delle essenze utilizzate, la perfezione delle decorazioni cromatiche, la stessa complessità dell'architettura dei vari strumenti riprodotti, la perfezione ed esattezza delle finiture, hanno qualcosa che davvero si avvicina al geniale. Mentre cerca di farmi comprendere come e dove abbia trovato le fonti storiche, quali tecniche abbia utilizzato e in quali passaggi, io posso solo rendermi conto della mia totale inadeguatezza persino a seguirlo nel ragionamento. E' come se nel fitto del bosco lui sapesse cogliere ogni sfumatura di colore, ogni trama di foglia, corteccia, qualunque profumo o canto di uccelli, mentre io fossi sordo e cieco e non potessi altro che limitarmi ad ammirare la bellezza della foresta. _________________________ Sava (TA);
