Lasiommata petropolitana (Fabricius, 1787) - Famiglia Nymphalidae - Sottofamiglia Satyrinae - Apertura alare: Da 3,6 a 4,2 cm. - Distribuzione in Italia: Presente su tutto l'arco alpino e in poche località dell'Appennino centrale tra Lazio e Abruzzo. - Habitat: Ambienti montani in prevalenza rocciosi da 800 sino a 2000 m., ma occasionalmente è stata rinvenuta anche a 500 m. - Periodo di volo: Univoltina da fine aprile a fine maggio alle quote inferiori e da giugno a luglio ad altitudini maggiori. - Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Varie graminacee tra cui Festuca ovina. - Dimorfismo sessuale: La femmina è leggermente più grande e con disegni più chiari dovuti anche alla mancanza, sul diritto dell'ala anteriore, della banda scura presente nel maschio e costituita da squame androconiali. - Specie simili: Lasiommata maera con cui viene spesso confusa, ma L. petropolitana, oltre ad essere più piccola e scura, presenta, sia nel maschio che nella femmina, all'altezza della terza nervatura mediana una frattura della linea scura centrale che attraversa in diagonale tutta l'ala anteriore, dal centro del bordo costale fino all'angolo tra il bordo interno e il bordo esterno. Nel maschio questa caratteristica è più facilmente osservabile sul rovescio. Sempre in L. petropolitana sul diritto dell'ala posteriore è ben visibile una separazione tra la zona prossimale scura e la zona distale più chiara.
