Il 2 Giugno, con i miei amici e la mia ragazza abbiamo deciso di visitare questa città lucana ormai abbandonata. La causa del suo abbandono è imputabile ad una frana che pian piano ha fatto franare un lato della collina su sorge la città e che purtroppo non si è riusciti a fermare. Le cause di questo fenomeno non sono note: c'è chi da la colpa al terremoto dell' Irpinia degli anni 80', altri danno la colpa all'acquedotto e alle perdite della rete idrica che hanno gonfiato un terreno molto ricco in arenaria. Fatto sta che pian piano, per questioni di sicurezza, la città si è progressivamente svuotata, con i suoi abitanti che sono stati trasferiti nella vicina Craco Peschiera, Sant' Angelo o negli altri comuni limitrofi. Fino a qualche anno fa un temerario ci viveva ancora, in quella che un tempo era la stazione dei carabinieri, ma poi ha conosciuto una donna, venuta dal Nord Italia perchè attratta da questa persona che viveva solitaria, ed è andato via con lei. Quest'ultimo aneddoto mi ha colpito particolarmente.
